Executive Summary

Federal Trade Commission has requested more data from both FoxMeyer and the Louis Zahn drug company on the merger. FoxMeyer expects the information to be provided in time for FTC to make a decision in December. FoxMeyer announced the acquisition of the Chicago drug distribution business Aug. 25 ("The Pink Sheet" Aug. 29, T&G-1). FTC is taking a closer look at mergers in the wholesaling industry, as illustrated by the commission's recent announcement that it would block McKesson's acquisition of Alco Health Services and Northwestern Drug.
