MILES TAPS JOHN HOWELL TO HEAD U.S. CONSUMER HEALTHCARE
Executive Summary
MILES TAPS JOHN HOWELL TO HEAD U.S. CONSUMER HEALTHCARE division, the Bayer subsidiary announced in a May 4 press release. A 19 year veteran of the consumer healthcare unit, Howell will be taking on increased responsibilities as president of Miles' OTC business. Howell has held the position of VP marketing-U.S. for the division since last year. Since 1982, he has served as VP-sales and, before that, national sales manager. Howell replaces Roger Stoll, PhD, who moves to executive VP of Bayer's worldwide Diagnostics Business Group, located at Miles' Elkhart, Indiana headquarters. In taking the new position, Stoll leaves vacant his other title of chief administrative officer of Miles. Stoll joined Miles in 1986 from American Critical Care; he was president of the Baxter subsidiary before its sale to DuPont. The management moves at Miles were sparked by the appointment of Walter Wenninger, DVM, to general manager of Bayer AG's worldwide Self-Medication Business Group. Bayer's worldwide OTC division headquarters is located in Leverkusen, West Germany. Previously, Wenninger was executive VP of Miles Diagnostics and head of Bayer's worldwide diagnostics business. Wenninger joined Bayer in 1968 and held various positions in the company's pharmaceutical marketing and sales department. In 1978, he was selected as head of marketing and sales for ethical and self-medication products in Germany. Wenninger moved to the U.S. in 1984 as president of the Ames diagnostic division, which later merged with Miles Scientific to form Miles' Diagnostics Group. His promotion becomes effective on July 1, 1987.
