Cyanide "wrongful use" law
Executive Summary
Signed into law Oct. 27 by President Reagan as part of omnibus legislation to combat drug abuse, the measure requires the Environmental Protection Agency to study and report within six months steps that might be taken in manufacturing and distribution of cyanide to safeguard the public from its wrongful use. Dupont, the sole U.S. manufacturer of cyanide, supports the study outlined in the bill, but questions the requirement that cyanide be made in a distinctive color. Dupont says added color would affect the product's purity.
