Walgreens
Executive Summary
Federal judge in Wisconsin ruled April 20 that the chain violated that state's Fair Dealership Act when it ended its natl. franchise program in 1980. U.S. District Judge Barbara Crabb awarded the 11 Wisconsin independent drug stores involved in the suit $431,000 -- less than the drug stores were seeking. Walgreens said that it intended to appeal the ruling and asserted its impact would be minimal since the "fair dealership" law in Wisconsin is unique to that state.
