Anthrax indications for doxycycline and penicillin G

Executive Summary
Doxycycline and penicillin G procaine are approved for use in treating all anthrax infections, FDA announces in the Oct. 30 Federal Register. The agency "is encouraging companies to update labeling of these products with this previously unspecified information." Anthrax treatment indications are also being sought by manufacturers for other antibiotics, including Bristol-Myers Squibb's Tequin (gatifloxacin), Johnson & Johnson's Levaquin (levofloxacin), GlaxoSmithKline's Augmentin (amoxicillin/clavulanate) and Amoxil (amoxicillin), and Pharmacia's Cleocin (clindamycin) and Zyvox (linezolid)
